Community Engagement
The Community Engagement portfolio within Alberta Health Services is responsible for supporting the strategic direction of Alberta Health Services and engaging community members in thoughtful discussion and dialogue on health service delivery, policy development and service planning.
Community Engagement will support Health Advisory Councils, Foundations and Trusts, and will support and strengthen the efforts of staff and leadership to engage communities.

Foundations and Trusts
Alberta Health Services recognizes the value of feedback from the community regarding health care service delivery, and have made feedback from stakeholders a priority. Foundations and Trusts are a major stakeholder because of the enormous positive impact their efforts have on local health care delivery.
More than 600 volunteer Trustees currently serve with the 75 Foundations and Trusts across the province. Thousands more volunteer their time to assist Foundations in the important work they do.
Health Advisory Councils
The Alberta Health Services Board has established 12 Health Advisory Councils to provide input to the Alberta Health Services Board and management on health care services in the context of the Alberta Health Services Strategic Plan. Health Advisory Councils will bring forward feedback from the public to support the strategic direction of Alberta Health Services.
Community Engagement
Engagement is one of the four core values in the new strategic direction of Alberta Health Services and it is recognized that involving community in meaningful ways will allow Alberta Health Services to be more responsive to the needs of the diverse communities we serve. Community engagement within Alberta Health Services is defined as incorporating the values and needs of the citizens we serve into health service decision making to enhance transparency and accountability.
