We Are One

April 1, 2009

We are one.

One team. One Board. One plan for the delivery of health care in Alberta.

On April 1, 2009, 'one' will be more than a number or a date on a calendar - it will signal an important milestone for all Albertans.

It marks the start of a new health care system, one that will help ensure Alberta remains the exciting, dynamic and energetic province it's always been.

It's the day when Alberta Health Services officially takes over from 12 former entities to deliver health care in the province. But Alberta Health Services is more than a system for delivery of health care.

We are 90,000 of the most dedicated health care professionals and support workers in the world. We are a diverse Board consisting of leaders from a wide variety of backgrounds. We are one - and everything we do is centered on Albertans and their health.

Our mission is to provide a patient-focused health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. But that's not just our mission - it's our philosophy. We believe that healthy Albertans make a strong province even stronger.

That's why Alberta Health Services will help Albertans meet their full health potential by supporting them with the necessary services and care providers. It's a commitment we're making to the 3.5 million adults and children living in Alberta.

Bringing together 12 former entities has been a huge challenge, but we've had plenty of inspiration. Alberta is already a leader in health care success and innovation in Canada, so we've been able to bring the best of what the former entities could deliver separately onto our team.

By continuing to build on our strengths, skills and commitment of our staff, we are building a health care system that will be the envy of others and serve as a model for health care reform.

We are one. And we're proud to serve Albertans.
