Health Advisory Councils
Working together to improve lives
Everything we do at Alberta Health Services is about improving the health of Albertans. Community input and engagement furthers our ability to provide quality, patient-focused health care that is accessible and sustainable.
The Alberta Health Services team is committed to engaging the public in a respectful, open and accountable manner to support the strategic direction of the organization. Community input and feedback allows us to better address the health needs of communities.
Health Advisory Councils have been established to enhance and develop partnerships between communities and Alberta Health Services. Each geographically-based council has 10 to 15 volunteer members, who are committed to their communities and the health service delivery system.
Health Advisory Council members will:
- Provide feedback about what is working well within the health care system and suggest areas for improvement;
- Engage members of the community and communicate what is being said about health services in their area;
- Consider quality and safety reports provided by Alberta Health Services and identify issues or trends from a local perspective; and
- Provide feedback to Alberta Health Services on matters pertaining to health services and service delivery.
The recruitment process for the Health Advisory Councils concluded Dec. 3 with appointments made by the Alberta Health Services Board. Each Health Advisory Council met in January, 2010 for orientation. All will meet again prior to the end of March to consider and establish their operational practices, elect Chair and Vice Chair positions, and establish their plan to engage and communicate with communities and Alberta Health Services.
Further information will be available here about each Health Advisory Council and its activities.
