Grande Prairie Care Centre/Points West Living

Seniors in Grande Prairie will soon have more living options, a broader range of services and more opportunities to receive the level of care they need in the best possible setting.

sod turningAlberta Health Services and its partners are renewing and expanding the supportive living accommodations available in Grande Prairie with two projects currently underway.

AHS has partnered with Points West Living, on a new, 150-bed facility for local seniors and other individuals who require supportive living.  As well, the Grande Prairie Care Centre is now being replaced with a bright and inviting home for seniors who need continuing care and Designated Assisted Living (DAL).

Both projects received funding from Alberta Seniors and Community Supports.

The new Grande Prairie Care Centre will be home for 60 continuing care residents and 60 Designated Assisted Living residents. The 60 continuing care beds will replace all of the spaces currently available at the Grande Prairie Care Centre.

The Points West Living facility will provide supportive living options for seniors as well as young adults, mental health clients, dementia patients and hospice palliative care patients.

Construction of the new Grande Prairie Care Centre started in April 2010 and is expected to open in the fall of 2011. The Points West Living project started in July 2009 and is expected to open in the winter of 2010.

Together, both projects will provide a much broader range of supportive living for area residents than is currently available.

Once completed, these centres will replace most services currently provided in Mackenzie Place, the continuing care centre attached to the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, and the Grande Prairie Care Centre with a wider range of services in modern, home-like facilities.
