Vaccine Dose Recommendation for Children Under 10

On November 12, the Public Health Agency of Canada released recommendations related to H1N1 vaccine and children under the age of 10.

New research has shown that healthy children, aged 3 to 9 years old, require only a single half-dose of the H1N1 vaccine.  This single half-dose provides healthy children in this age group with proper protection from the Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus.

Children between 3 and 9 years of age who have chronic conditions should still receive two half-doses of the H1N1 vaccine, at least 21 days apart.  These children should receive the first half-dose of the H1N1 vaccine as soon as possible.

Children over 6 months of age and under 3 years of age are also still recommended to receive two half-doses of the H1N1 vaccine, which should be given at least 21 days apart.
